This year the observance will be held May 20-26.

"California's 285,501 classified school employees are paraeducators, office and clerical helpers, health care workers, school bus drivers, maintenance workers, and food service employees, and provide special services ranging from campus security to computer programming," said O'Connell.

"Teachers often receive the most credit for educating our children. But classified employees are important school staff members who play key roles in creating a school environment that promotes student achievement, children's safety, and health.

"Congratulations, and thanks to all classified school employees for their hard work on behalf of students here in California and nationwide."
