Women's Water Polo Coaches

Head Coach - Scott Decker

Scott DeckerScott Decker started his coaching career in 1984 at UC Davis as an assistant coach for the Women's Water Polo Program. During the next 4 years, he assisted then, and current, Head Coach Jamey Wright until he graduated in 1987. Upon graduation in 1987, Scott Decker was hired as the Men's Water Polo and Men's & Women's Swimming Coach at El Camino HS in Sacramento. Over the next 10 years, Decker guided the Eagles Water Polo Teams to over 200 victories during his tenure, and was twice named Capital Athletic League Coach of the Year (91 & 95).

In 1994, Decker started the first Women’s High School Water Polo team in the Northern part of the Sac-Joaquin Section, and was credited with starting Women’s water polo in the Sacramento Area as other teams followed suit.  In 1995, Decker guided his team to the Championship of the Inaugural 8 team Sierra Shootout High School Women’s Water Polo Tournament held here at Sierra College.  Because of the start, and growth, of the sport, the tournament now has a field of 64 teams each year, the largest High School Water Polo Tournament in the Western United States.  Scott Decker has been the Head Coach of the Women’s Water Polo Team at Sierra College since its inception in 1996.  After one year as a club sport on campus, the Lady Wolverines water polo team received recognized intercollegiate status.

During the past 11 seasons, Coach Decker has guided the Women’s water polo team to an overall record of 227-112-3, while capturing 6 Conference Championships and 5 Northern California Championships, as well as 7 top 4 finishes at the California Community College State Championships, the most success of any Women’s water polo program in Northern California history.  Because of the programs accomplishments, Decker was named Conference Coach of the Year in 1999, 2002, and 2005. Even with all of the success that the Lady Wolverines have had, Coach Decker is the most proud of the fact that in the last 11 years he has had 44 athletes offered Division 1 Water Polo scholarships, and in 2001 the Lady Wolverines Water Polo team was named the winner of the Commission on Athletics Team Scholar Award for their academic, as well as athletic, excellence.
