Environmental Horticulture

The Environmental Horticulture program trains students for entry level positions, enhances existing skills, and prepares students for transfer. Program emphasis is "hands-on" experience with student participation in all classes and laboratories. Graduates of the program are prepared for careers in plant propagation and production, wholesale and retail nursery operations, interior landscaping, plant pest management, arboriculture and urban forestry, landscape design, construction, installation and maintenance, sports turf maintenance and other related fields. Requirements are the same for both degree and certificate programs, both require a total of 29 units in the major.

The demands for locally trained horticulturists is rapidly increasing due to today's urban development. Sierra College's Environmental Horticulture program has a certificate and a degree program that help prepare students for careers in the horticulture industry and for more advanced study. Our broadbased curriculum is designed to enhance the skills of those already working, preparing for a career change, or beginning new careers.

Prospective students and parents are invited to visit the department and classes to meet with the staff prior to registration. Get a first hand look at what we have to offer our students. Please call in advance to make an appointment (916) 660-7906.

Transfer and Major Requirements in Environmental Horticulture are available in the Counseling Center. Students should consult a counselor for other transfer requirements. Catalogs of California and out-of-state colleges are available in the Library and the Counseling Center.
