The Award Letter

Once your file is complete, your file will be reviewed and awarded based on information reported on your FAFSA, and the number of units you will enrolled in. Students will receive only one Award Letter per school year.

Read your award letter carefully. The award letter will include an estimated cost of attendance, student contribution, total expected family contribution, and your financial need. Your letter will also provide you with your total financial aid award and unmet need.

Students will receive one of three Award Letters

A Preliminary Financial Aid Award Letter

This award letter will list all federal and state grant awards for the academic school year. All award estimated are based on preliminary data which was reported on your FAFSA to Sierra College. This award is based on your preliminary enrollment status, provided your enrollment status does not change during the school year. NOTE: Disbursement dates will be included in your letter, and checks will be mailed to the address the Records and Admissions Office has on file.

A BOGW Only Award Letter

Students who receive a BOGW letter are only eligible to have their enrollment fees waived. The BOGW grant is available to California residents who meet income eligibility requirements. The program waives the $20 per unit enrollment fee, the $2 PASS telephone registration fee, the $13 health fee, and also reduces the semester parking fee from $40 to $20. The BOGW is effective for the whole academic school year (Fall/Spring/Summer). There is no minimum unit requirement.

A No Need Financial Award Letter

If you receive a "No Need" Letter from the Financial Aid Office, it has been determined that based on the need analysis formula and procedures set by the U.S. Department of Education, you are not eligible to receive a Federal pell grant for the school year. If you are interested in applying for Federal Work Study or Federal Stafford loan, you are required to attend a Loan Workshop. Call the Financial Aid Office at the Rocklin Campus for dates and times at (916) 660-7310.
