Financial Aid

NEW: We are disbursing financial aid grants and scholarships using either the Sallie Mae Debit MasterCard, direct deposit or by paper check. Signing up is easy! Sign up today.

The debit card or direct deposit disbursement options will guarantee that your funds reach you quickly and with little hassle. If you choose to have your funds delivered by direct deposit, you will need to provide the routing and account number to your savings or checking account using the secure web site from the Debit Card site. This process may take up to four days as the bank will need to authenticate your account information – referred to as the prenote process. If you elect a check then you do not need to do anything further and your check will be mailed to the address that the Financial Aid office has on file.  As with all debit cards you must be aware of some of the hidden fees. Be sure to read the Terms and Conditions.

We are implementing Online Internet Video Financial Aid Orientation.

The Financial Aid Office provides support for students to help meet the costs of obtaining a college education. Funding is provided by the federal / state governments and private donors.

Four main types of financial aid programs are available:

Grants:
Federal or State gift assistance with no obligation for work or repayment.
Scholarships:
Gift assistance with no obligation for work or repayment.
Loans:
Providing funds now, but with a future repayment obligation.
Work-Study:
Part-time work while attending Sierra College.

We do not encourage the use of student loans since the cost of attendance is low at Sierra College. Students are urged to save their loan eligibility for use at four-year colleges or universities where the cost of education is greater.

Financial aid will come to you in the form of a package consisting of a combination of the different types of aid available. The combination of aid offered depends on the availability of funds, your eligibility, the timeliness with which the application process is completed, and your year in school.

Financial assistance is a resource designed to supplement the cost of education, and is not intended to be used as a student’s sole means of income. The types and amounts of aid Sierra awards or recommends are subject to availability of funds, enrollment status, and financial need.
