Glossary of Transfer Terms

CSU GE (California State University General Education)
Specific courses which satisfy certain areas of lower division general education and required for admission and/or graduation from a California State University. You may obtain a GE sheet at the Transfer Center, Counseling, or from your counselor. GE certification is done by Admissions and Records and can be requested when you request your official transcripts on the Transcript Request form.
GATE Agreement (Guaranteed Admission for Transfer Entry)
An agreement entered into by the student and UC Santa Cruz for guaranteed admission to that campus. GATE agreements are only written in the Fall Semester and require an appointment with a Sierra College counselor. After the agreement is signed it is sent to UCSC for approval. Certain criteria must be met for a GATE agreement; see your counselor for more information.
Golden Four
Four specific areas (area A, sections 1,2, & 3 AND area B, section 3) on the CSU GE sheet that must be fulfilled before you will be accepted by a California State University.
IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum)
Specific courses which satisfy certain areas of lower division general education, in certain majors, required for admission and/or graduation from a University of California campus. IGETC certification requires a counseling appointment ( it is NOT automatic) and is usually done the semester prior to transfer. After it is written, the IGETC certification is processed and sent to Admissions and Records where it can be requested when you request your official transcript on the Transcript Request form. Please remember that IGETC certification is not for all majors at UC. Ask your counselor if IGETC is the correct pattern for you to follow.
TAA (Transfer Admission Agreement)
An agreement entered into by the student and UC Davis for guaranteed admission to that campus in your chosen major. TAA's are written in the Fall and Spring semesters. They usually require an hour appointment with a Sierra College counselor. Once written and signed TAA's are sent to UC Davis for approval. The agreements are written one year in advance. For example, a Fall 2002 TAA would have been written in Fall 2001. Other criteria apply, see your counselor for more information.
TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee)
An agreement entered into by a student and UC San Diego for guaranteed admission to one of the six colleges on that campus. TAG agreements may be written up to two years in advance and must be completed and approved at least one full month prior to the application period for the desired term of entry. Other criteria apply, see your counselor for more information.
Transcripts, unofficial
A copy of all the coursework a student has completed while attending a certain college (a student will have a transcript record for each college, university, or high school that he or she attends). Unofficial transcripts can be obtained from your counselor during a scheduled appointment, or from admissions and records.
Transcripts, official
Official transcripts must be obtained from Admissions and Records, or transcripts may be ordered online. Admissions and Records will send your official transcripts directly to the school you indicate on the form. There is a minimum processing time of 7 working days. You may put a "Rush" on your online order at an extra charge (prices are listed online). To obtain your two free copies you must order them in person at the Admissions and Records Office (L Bldg).
